Mapping a network drive for Kennel Connection 7

Note:  You must have the KC7 folder on your main/server machine shared with Everyone.  If you have not done so, do it now before proceeding with this document.  Directions can be found in the Kennel Connection 7 Networking Guide.  If you have already done this, proceed to the next step on your secondary workstation.

1.      Click the File Explorer icon on your system tray (manila folder).  Inside of the Computer/File Explorer window, right mouse click on This PC on the left hand side of the window.  Choose Map Network Drive.

2. Select a drive letter.  If you have already had a mapped drive and it became disconnected, choose the same drive letter as before to avoid having to make other changes.  If this is the first time you are mapping a drive, we recommend K for Kennel Connection.

3.   Type in the file path you saved in step 4 of the Networking Guide linked above and click Finish.

4.  Make sure the option to Reconnect at sign-in is selected and choose Finish.

The mapped drive will now open and display the contents of the KC7 folder from your main/server computer.  If this is a new workstation setup, open the wkennel.ini file through the network drive.

This should open in Notepad. Scroll to the very bottom where you see the [SQL Server] settings. You'll need to copy everything from Server= to SQLType= and put it into a blank word document or a different blank Notepad tab. You'll use this to point your new workstation to your main computer in the Networking Guide linked above.

Please note: All screenshots are taken from a test machine, and your SQL Server instance name will be different than the screenshot.

Close this window.

You have successfully mapped a network drive.  If you encounter any errors or you cannot see your main computer listed in the network, you will need to contact a local computer professional to see if they can get the drives mapped.  The network setup is the responsibility of you and/or your technician.

If your computers are networked and can communicate but you are not able to network Kennel Connection, contact support at Support@KennelConnection.net or 1-888-486-4343 option 2 Mon-Fri between 8am-7pm EST.
